NIHR Stillbirth project – Regional coordinator, Dr Sabina Wakasiaka, visited Malawi to support the implementation of the Audit of stillbirth action plan

The Regional coordinator (Dr Sabina Wakasiaka) visited both Blantyre and Lilongwe during the first week of March 2019 to support the Malawi Team Leader (Professor Angela Chimwaza) and Research Assistants (Chisomo Petross and Isabella Chisuse) in the development of the action plan interventions for the stillbirth audit.

The visit was an opportunity to present the results of the first audit to the health professionals (midwives, nurses and doctors) from the two audit sites (Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blantyre and Bwaila Maternity Hospital, Lilongwe). The audit team together with clinicians identified recommendations for improvement relevant to the audit findings.

The Audit Action plan is in the process of being implemented into the clinical area of both sites. After the implementation of changes a second audit will be conducted 3 months later (June 2019).
