LAUNCH OF LUGINA AFRICA MIDWIVES RESEARCH NETWORK (LAMRN)

Lugina Africa Midwives Research Network (LAMRN) was officially launched during the last day of the 3rd ICM 2013 Africa Regional Congress in July 2013. LAMRN is the brand new organization that was rebranded and re-launched from the old collaboration, AMRN in honour of the late Dr. Helen Lugina who worked tireless right from its inception to the great heights it has reached.

During this auspicious occasion, Mrs. Enid Mwebaza a Senior Midwife and the LAMRN Focal Group Leader – Uganda, gave a brief presentation on the history of African Midwives Research Network (AMRN) and the name change to LAMRN.

Prof. Dame Tina Lavender from the University of Manchester and the Principal Investigator (PI) for LAMRN gave a brief presentation on LAMRN and its objectives, its sponsors and the seven (7) collaborators: 6 African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe) and the University of Manchester. She also expressed her anticipation at the improvement of midwives research skills in Africa through this collaboration.

Prof. Grace Omoni, LAMRN Chairperson and Focal Group Leader- Kenya thanked all the sponsors of AMRN and LAMRN for their continued support over the years, and asked those present to stand and observe a moment of silence in memory of the late Dr. Helen Lugina, one of the foremost founders of AMRN in whose honour AMRN was receiving a name change to LAMRN.
